Disney Villains: Maleficent #3

Disney Villains: Maleficent #3 was published in 2023 as part of a limited comic book miniseries produced by Dynamite Entertainment under license from Disney. This series was designed to explore the origins and internal motivations of the iconic antagonist from Sleeping Beauty, fitting into a broader initiative by publishers to provide darker, character-driven narratives for classic fairy tale villains. The creative team, led by writer Soo Lee, aimed to frame Maleficent not merely as a force of evil, but as a complex figure grappling with power and isolation.

The visual aesthetic of the issue continues the series' stylized, moody approach, characterized by dramatic lighting and high-contrast ink work that emphasizes the character's gothic presence. The cover art, featuring variant editions by different illustrators, is central to the appeal of this series, as it draws on the legacy of Disney's animation history while grounding it in contemporary comic book sensibilities. It was received by the fan community as a notable addition to the expanding library of expanded-universe Disney literature.
