Where it came from
Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken, known in English as Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, was originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump between 1989 and 1996. The Shinsō Sairokuban, or 'newly recorded edition,' was released in Japan starting in 2020 to coincide with the airing of the franchise's second anime adaptation. This particular reissue was designed to provide a modern, high-quality reading experience for a new generation of fans while celebrating the legacy of the original manga series.
The series was written by Riku Sanjo and illustrated by Koji Inada, with character designs rooted in the iconic aesthetic of the Dragon Quest video game series established by Akira Toriyama. The manga became a defining title of the 1990s Shonen Jump era, praised for its blend of classic fantasy adventure tropes and genuine emotional depth. The Shinsō Sairokuban edition includes updated cover art and editorial content that reflects the enduring cultural impact of the series, which remains a staple of Japanese fantasy literature.
