Where it came from
El Perro Enamorado de las Estrellas, or The Dog Who Loved the Stars, is a poignant graphic novel series created by Japanese manga artist Takashi Murakami. Originally published as Hoshi Mamoru Inu, the work emerged from a desire to explore the profound, unconditional bond between humans and their canine companions, often set against the backdrop of societal isolation and the search for belonging.
The narrative follows an elderly man who, after losing his job and family, embarks on a journey across Japan with his dog, Happy. Murakami utilized a gentle, melancholic illustrative style to emphasize the emotional weight of the story. The series was met with significant critical acclaim in Japan for its sensitive handling of themes like poverty and loyalty, eventually being adapted into a feature film that solidified its status as a modern classic in emotive storytelling.
