Elric: The Weird of the White Wolf #4

Published by First Comics in 1987, this issue serves as the conclusion to the four-part adaptation of Michael Moorcock's foundational sword-and-sorcery novella. The series was produced during a period of renewed interest in the Elric of Melniboné saga, capitalizing on the character's status as a quintessential anti-hero of fantasy literature. It occupies a unique space in the 1980s independent comics boom, which saw established literary properties translated into sophisticated graphic formats.

The adaptation was scripted by Roy Thomas, who remained faithful to the dark, psychedelic tone of the source material. The series is particularly noted for the artwork of P. Craig Russell and Michael T. Gilbert, who sought to capture the ethereal, melancholic aesthetic of the Eternal Champion. The issue was received well by fantasy enthusiasts for its adherence to the atmospheric bleakness that defines Moorcock's work, providing a visual interpretation that remains a touchstone for fans of the character.
