Elric: The Sleeping Sorceress #2

Elric: The Sleeping Sorceress was published by Pacific Comics in 1982, representing a significant moment in the migration of high-fantasy literature into the medium of graphic storytelling. This series was an adaptation of Michael Moorcock's iconic albino emperor, Elric of Melniboné, aiming to capture the dark, atmospheric tone of the original novels through a serialized format that allowed for expansive, detailed world-building.

The issue features the artistic vision of P. Craig Russell, whose intricate linework and refined sense of composition were instrumental in defining the aesthetic of this iteration of Elric. Russell sought to emphasize the tragic, ethereal nature of the character, moving away from traditional superhero conventions to embrace a more classical, illustrative style. Upon its release, the series was well-regarded for its fidelity to Moorcock's prose and served as a touchstone for readers interested in the intersection of literary fantasy and sophisticated comic book illustration.
