Where it came from
FX Senshi Kurumi-chan originated as an unconventional manga series written by Hiroshi Matsuyama, the CEO of CyberConnect2, and illustrated by Daisuke Matsuda. The series was designed to bridge the gap between complex financial trading strategies and the shonen battle manga genre, using the high-stakes world of currency trading as a metaphor for intense combat. Issue #3 continues the narrative arc where the protagonist, a magical girl character, navigates the volatile markets, serving as an educational tool disguised as escapist fiction.
The series emerged from a niche desire to popularize financial literacy among younger readers in Japan, with Matsuyama leveraging his industry connections to ensure technical accuracy regarding foreign exchange mechanics. Upon its release, the manga was noted for its eccentric premise and its earnest attempt to teach the mechanics of the FX market. It remains a cult curiosity, appreciated by enthusiasts who enjoy the unusual blend of aesthetic tropes from magical girl anime and the dry realities of financial investment.
