Where it came from
FX Senshi Kurumi-chan originated as a web manga series authored by D.M.A. during the late 1990s, capturing the specific cultural climate of Japan's economic bubble burst. The narrative follows Kurumi, a girl who becomes a magical warrior tasked with navigating the cutthroat world of foreign exchange trading to save her father's company. The series is characterized by its surreal juxtaposition of shojo-style magical girl tropes with the dry, often cynical mechanics of day trading and macroeconomic volatility.
The seventh issue of this series follows the established aesthetic of the work, which balances high-energy action sequences with didactic passages on financial markets. While the series maintains a niche status, it has garnered a dedicated following for its unusual premise and its ability to dramatize market fluctuations through character-driven conflict. The artwork utilizes standard manga conventions to convey both the whimsy of the magical girl genre and the sterile, pressure-filled atmosphere of a currency trading floor.
