Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance #5

Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance #5, published in 1993, sits firmly within the expansive and gritty supernatural corner of the Marvel Universe during the early 1990s. This series served as a cornerstone for the 'Midnight Sons' crossover event, which united various horror-themed characters to combat the demonic threat of Lilith and her children. The narrative builds upon the complex relationship between Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch, the two primary entities bearing the Ghost Rider mantle at the time.

The issue features cover art and interior contributions by Adam Kubert, whose dynamic, heavy-lined aesthetic became synonymous with the 'Dark Marvel' visual style of the era. The creative team aimed to lean into the visceral, gothic horror elements of the franchise, contrasting the fiery kinetic energy of the character with the brooding atmosphere of the occult plotline. Upon release, the issue was well-received by fans of the dark fantasy sub-genre, solidifying the series' role in shaping the darker, more visceral editorial direction Marvel pursued in the mid-90s.
