Gunsmith Cats: Bean Bandit #9

Gunsmith Cats: Bean Bandit was published in the mid-1990s as a spin-off from Kenichi Sonoda’s popular manga series Gunsmith Cats. The series focuses on the character Bean Bandit, an expert getaway driver, and maintains the high-octane, car-centric action that became the hallmark of Sonoda’s work. This specific issue is part of the original localized comic book run distributed in North America by Dark Horse Comics, which sought to bring niche manga titles to a wider Western audience during the rise of the medium's international popularity.

The visual design of the series reflects Sonoda’s signature style, characterized by detailed mechanical drawings—particularly of classic automobiles—and dynamic, cinematic panel layouts. Sonoda, who transitioned from character design in anime to full-time manga authorship, emphasized a gritty, American-inspired action aesthetic. The series was well-received by fans of the techno-thriller and crime genres, serving as a stylistic bridge between traditional Japanese manga and the fast-paced, gun-toting cinema prevalent in Hollywood at the time.
