Hellstorm: Prince of Lies #9

Hellstorm: Prince of Lies was launched by Marvel Comics in 1993 as part of their darker, supernatural-leaning 'Midnight Sons' line. Issue #9, published in 1994, serves as a pivotal entry in the series, continuing the gritty, occult-themed storytelling that sought to distance the character of Daimon Hellstrom from his traditional superhero origins. The title was characterized by its intense atmospheric tone, exploring the psychological toll of Hellstrom’s heritage as the son of Satan.

The creative direction for this period of the series was heavily influenced by the trend of 'extreme' and horror-inflected comics popular in the mid-90s. While the series was often noted for its unconventional narrative structure and bleak themes, it remains a cult-favorite among readers who appreciate Marvel's foray into mature, character-driven supernatural drama. It stands as a representative artifact of a transitional era in mainstream comic publishing, where editors were willing to experiment with niche, darker intellectual properties.
