Heroes for Hire #5

Heroes for Hire #5, published in 1997, is part of the original 19-issue run written by John Ostrander and penciled by Pasqual Ferry. This series was conceived to revitalize the partnership between Luke Cage and Iron Fist, bringing them back into a contemporary Marvel landscape that had shifted significantly since their 1970s heyday. The narrative sought to balance the gritty, street-level origins of the characters with a broader, more expansive team dynamic that integrated them into the wider Marvel superhero hierarchy of the late nineties.

The visual direction of this era was heavily influenced by Pasqual Ferry's distinctive, dynamic style, which emphasized fluid character movement and unconventional page layouts. The series was generally well-regarded for its character-driven focus, providing a nuanced exploration of the protagonists' friendship and professional motivations as they navigated the complexities of operating a mercenary business for good. It remains a notable entry for fans of 1990s Marvel editorial choices and the evolution of the Heroes for Hire brand identity.
