Heroes for Hire #19

Published in January 1999 as part of the original Heroes for Hire series by Marvel Comics, this issue was written by John Ostrander with art by Pascual Ferry. The series focused on a team of mercenaries for hire led by Iron Fist and Luke Cage, attempting to carve out a niche in the post-Heroes Reborn Marvel Universe. This specific issue occurs during a period of shifting editorial direction, as the series struggled to find a sustainable audience before its cancellation shortly thereafter.

Pascual Ferry’s kinetic, stylized illustration marked a distinct departure from the more grounded house styles of the time, aiming to inject a sense of dynamism into the street-level superhero narrative. While the series was often overshadowed by high-profile crossovers, it remains appreciated by collectors for its exploration of the complex, often fraught partnership between the primary protagonists and the peripheral characters of the Marvel underground.
