Hornsby & Halo #16

Hornsby & Halo was a fantasy-adventure comic series published during the late 1980s, a period that saw a surge in independent titles attempting to diversify the medium beyond the mainstream superhero industrial complex. Issue #16 arrived during the mid-run of the series, a time when the creative team was deepening the mythological stakes of the protagonists' journey through a blend of urban fantasy and surrealist humor. The series was characterized by its distinct, whimsical aesthetic that favored fluid line work and unconventional character designs, aiming to carve out a niche for readers looking for narrative experimentation.

The series was part of a broader wave of creator-driven works that sought to balance episodic storytelling with a developing overarching narrative. While the title never reached the ubiquity of major imprint comics, it gained a dedicated following among collectors of late-80s independent press who valued its specific brand of imaginative world-building. Critical reception at the time noted the charm of the character interactions, positioning the series as a cult curiosity that showcased the creative freedom afforded to artists operating outside the influence of the major publishing houses.
