It Takes More Than a Pretty Face to Fall in Love #1

It Takes More Than a Pretty Face to Fall in Love, known in Japan as Kao dake ja suki ni narimasen, is a popular shojo manga series created by manga artist Karin Anzai. The series began serialization in Hakusensha's shojo magazine Hana to Yume in 2020. The story centers on Sawa, a girl with a deep appreciation for handsome faces who finds her resolve tested when she encounters a boy whose physical beauty masks a chaotic and troublesome personality.

The design and artistic approach of the series are characteristic of contemporary shojo, focusing on expressive character designs and the romantic tension typical of the genre. Anzai’s work was developed to explore the gap between public perception and private personality, a theme that resonated well with readers of the magazine. Upon its release, the series gained a dedicated following for its humorous take on high school romance and its polished, visually appealing aesthetic.
