Justice League International #12

Justice League International #12, published in 1988, serves as a pivotal entry in the celebrated run by writers Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis with artist Kevin Maguire. This era of the series is widely regarded for its radical tonal shift, pivoting the Justice League away from grim, high-stakes superheroics toward a character-driven, comedic workplace dynamic. The issue maintains the series' trademark blend of political satire and interpersonal humor, grounded in Maguire's expressive, character-focused illustrative style which emphasized body language over traditional action poses.

The reception of this specific era remains largely positive within comic history, as it successfully revitalized the Justice League franchise during a period when team-based titles were struggling to maintain reader engagement. By focusing on the dysfunctional chemistry of a global peacekeeping organization, Giffen and DeMatteis created a template for the modern ensemble comic. The design of the issue, featuring the iconic interplay between members like Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, and Guy Gardner, solidified the brand's identity as a cult classic that continues to influence contemporary superhero satire.
