Justice League International #8

Published in December 1987, Justice League International #8 arrived at the height of the series' successful reinvention under writers Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis. Moving away from the traditional, earnest superhero dynamics of the past, this era of the League focused on interpersonal comedy, office politics, and the bureaucratic challenges of operating a global superhero organization. The issue fits into the 'Justice League Antarctica' narrative arc, a beloved storyline that showcased the team's lighter, more human side.

The interior art was provided by Kevin Maguire, whose expressive character work became the defining aesthetic of this run. Maguire was instrumental in establishing the series' unique tone, utilizing body language and subtle facial expressions to emphasize the humor in the script. The issue was well-received by readers for its balance of traditional action with dry wit, cementing the reputation of the Giffen-DeMatteis-Maguire trio as one of the most influential creative teams in the history of the Justice League.
