Justice League International #18

Published in 1988, Justice League International #18 serves as a pivotal conclusion to the Justice League's confrontation with the villainous Manga Khan and his robotic servant, L-Ron. This issue is a cornerstone of the 'Bwa-ha-ha' era, a period defined by the creative team of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis, who steered the title away from gritty superhero tropes toward a character-driven, ensemble sitcom style that emphasized interpersonal chemistry over standard action.

The interior art was provided by Kevin Maguire, whose expressive, comedic character acting remains the visual benchmark for this iteration of the team. Maguire’s ability to imbue the heroes with palpable frustration and absurdity balanced the darker, high-stakes stakes of the cosmic plot. Upon its release, the issue was widely praised by critics and readers for its unique blend of humor and genuine character development, cementing its reputation as a defining moment in the history of the Justice League.
