Kemuri no Mukō ni Koe ga Kikoeru #2

Kemuri no Mukō ni Koe ga Kikoeru (I Can Hear a Voice from Beyond the Smoke) is a manga series by the Japanese author and illustrator Yoshitoshi ABe. The series emerged from ABe's exploration of surreal, atmospheric storytelling, characterized by his signature muted aesthetic and focus on introspective, often cryptic narratives. Issue #2 continues the series' established tone, which reflects the author's background in fine arts and his penchant for blending mundane reality with subtle, haunting elements of science fiction or the supernatural.

The design and visual language of this work are consistent with ABe’s broader body of art, which often emphasizes negative space and expressive, sketchy linework. Upon its release, the series was received by fans of the author's more experimental projects, such as Haibane Renmei and Serial Experiments Lain. It is regarded by collectors as a piece of ephemeral print media that highlights ABe’s personal creative process and his ability to construct evocative environments within the constraints of a short-form manga format.
