Where it came from
Kenja no Deshi wo Nanoru Kenja, known in English as She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man, originated as a light novel series by Hirotsugu Ryusen. The comic adaptation, illustrated by Dicca Suemitsu, began serialization in 2016 within Micro Magazine's Comic Ride platform. This adaptation was commissioned to visualize the high-fantasy world and the gender-bending narrative arc of the protagonist, Kagami Sakimori, who finds himself transformed into the avatar of his game character, the elderly mage Dunbalf.
The twelfth volume continues the series' established aesthetic, characterized by Suemitsu's clean lines and detailed character designs that aim to balance typical isekai tropes with the specific visual identity of the source material. Since its debut, the manga has been received as a solid companion to the light novels, valued primarily by fans of the series for its consistent art style and its efforts to translate the complex game-mechanic world of Ark Earth Online into a serialized visual format.
