Knull #5

Knull #5 was published by Marvel Comics in April 2021 as the concluding chapter of the King in Black event. The series was written by Donny Cates with interior art by Ryan Stegman, serving as the climax to a multi-year narrative arc that began in the pages of Venom. The storyline centers on the battle between Eddie Brock and Knull, the ancient deity of the void, who sought to envelop the universe in darkness using his army of symbiotes.

The visual identity of the series, driven by Stegman’s dynamic and often visceral style, was intended to evoke a high-stakes, cosmic horror aesthetic that leaned heavily into the darker corners of Marvel lore. Upon its release, the conclusion was noted for its significant impact on the status quo of the Venom character, effectively resetting the protagonist's trajectory and solidifying Knull as a foundational antagonist in modern Marvel continuity. Critical reception generally praised the scale of the finale, acknowledging it as a definitive end to the overarching symbiotic saga Cates had been constructing since 2018.
