La Zorra y el Cuervo #208

La Zorra y el Cuervo was a beloved Cuban humor magazine that debuted in 1964 as a successor to the earlier publication Zig-Zag. It served as a primary outlet for political satire and social commentary in Cuba, featuring a recurring cast of anthropomorphic characters that mirrored archetypes of the era. The magazine was instrumental in fostering a unique style of Cuban graphic humor, blending traditional comic strips with biting wit that navigated the complexities of life under the socialist system.

Issue #208 represents the mature period of the publication, characterized by the collaborative efforts of some of Cuba’s most respected illustrators and writers, such as Virgilio Martínez and René de la Nuez. The design language of this era favored bold line work and high-contrast ink drawings, emphasizing caricature over realism to effectively convey social critique. It was received by the Cuban public as a staple of national print culture, serving as both a source of entertainment and a reflection of the collective consciousness of its readership during its long tenure.
