Where it came from
La Zorra y el Cuervo was a prominent Cuban comic book series published by the Editorial Juvenil and later the Editora Abril. The series originated in the mid-1960s, adapting the classic fable characters into a recurring comic strip format that mirrored the style of popular international anthropomorphic comics. It became a staple of childhood reading in Cuba, providing a blend of morality tales and humor that resonated with generations of readers across the country.
The character designs were heavily influenced by the tradition of satirical fables, focusing on the dynamic between the cunning fox and the often gullible crow. Issue number 49 reflects the established aesthetic of the series during its peak, characterized by simple, expressive line art and clear storytelling intended for a wide juvenile audience. These issues are now regarded as significant cultural artifacts of Cuban print history, capturing the visual language and pedagogical themes prevalent in mid-century socialist literary output.
