Le Dit du Genji - Asaki Yumemishi #2

Le Dit du Genji - Asaki Yumemishi is a manga adaptation of Murasaki Shikibu’s 11th-century masterpiece, The Tale of Genji, illustrated by Waki Yamato. The series was serialized in Japan starting in 1980 and served as a landmark achievement in shōjo manga, successfully distilling the complex, lengthy Heian-period classic into a visually opulent and accessible narrative format. Yamato's work is widely praised for its meticulous period detail, capturing the delicate aesthetics of Japanese court life through elegant character designs and expressive, flowing line work.

The French publication of this series, often produced in high-quality editions to honor its artistic significance, serves to introduce Western readers to one of the most important works of Japanese literature. The second volume continues the saga of Hikaru Genji, maintaining the series' reputation for emotional depth and historical reverence. Within the industry, the adaptation is regarded as a definitive visual interpretation of the novel, balancing the weight of its classical source material with the nuanced, romantic storytelling style synonymous with Yamato’s long and influential career.
