Legion of Super-Heroes #54

Legion of Super-Heroes #54, published in 1988, serves as part of the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths relaunch of the DC Comics universe. Written by Paul Levitz and illustrated by Greg LaRocque, this issue falls within the 'The Legion of Super-Heroes' vol. 3 run. This period was characterized by a push for more mature, complex storytelling, attempting to navigate the team's massive roster and intricate continuity while maintaining the core themes of youthful idealism in a futuristic setting.

The design and artistic direction by Greg LaRocque emphasize the character-driven aesthetic of the late 1980s, balancing detailed backgrounds with the distinct, heroic costume designs that define the Legion. Reception at the time focused on the creative team's ability to maintain a coherent narrative despite the sweeping changes occurring across the DC line, securing the issue's place as a quintessential example of the mid-eighties superhero ensemble epic.
