Legion of Super-Heroes #41

Legion of Super-Heroes #41, published in late 1987, emerged during a pivotal era for the DC Comics team under the creative direction of writer Paul Levitz and artist Greg LaRocque. As part of the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths landscape, this issue helped navigate the complex continuity adjustments required to harmonize the Legion's 30th-century history with the broader DC Universe. The narrative focus at this time often grappled with the team’s evolution from optimistic space opera into more grounded, political science fiction.

Greg LaRocque’s illustrative work on this run is recognized for balancing the high-concept visual demands of the futuristic setting with the character-driven drama that defined Levitz’s tenure. The art style maintained the clean, expressive lines characteristic of late 1980s DC, aiming to ground the sprawling cast of teen heroes in consistent, recognizable environments. Upon its release, the issue was received as a standard installment in a long-running saga that prioritized deep lore and intricate ensemble storytelling over single-issue gimmicks.
