Logan: Black, White & Blood #1

Logan: Black, White & Blood #1 was released by Marvel Comics in late 2020 as the debut of an anthology series dedicated to Wolverine. The series utilized a distinct aesthetic palette, restricted strictly to black, white, and red, a stylistic choice intended to emphasize the brutal nature of the character and the visceral, often violent reality of his history. This anthology format allowed various creative teams to explore self-contained vignettes across different periods of Logan's life, moving away from long-form serialized storytelling to focus on atmosphere and character study.

The inaugural issue featured contributions from writers and artists including Gerry Duggan, Declan Shalvey, and Matthew Rosenberg. The design philosophy behind this project was to pay homage to classic noir sensibilities while highlighting the stark, iconic imagery associated with Wolverine's claws and healing factor through the sparing use of red. Upon its release, the issue was generally well-received by critics and readers, who praised the focused visual direction and the versatility afforded to the creative teams within the unique creative constraints.
