Los Asesinatos de la Mansión Decagonal #5

Los Asesinatos de la Mansión Decagonal, or The Decagon House Murders, originated as a seminal 1987 novel by Yukito Ayatsuji that redefined the Japanese mystery genre by spearheading the 'shin honkaku' or new orthodox movement. This movement sought to return to the classical logic-driven puzzle-solving style of Golden Age detective fiction, distancing itself from the socially conscious realism that had previously dominated the genre. The narrative follows a group of university mystery club students who visit a remote island, only to find themselves picked off one by one, echoing the structure of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None.

The manga adaptation, illustrated by Hiro Kiyohara and serialized in Monthly Afternoon, meticulously translates Ayatsuji's claustrophobic atmosphere into a visual medium. Kiyohara's art style emphasizes the isolation of the island and the clinical, structural precision of the decagonal house, which was designed by a mysterious architect. The series has been widely praised for its ability to maintain the intense suspense and complex misdirection of the original prose, solidifying its status as a cornerstone of modern Japanese suspense literature.
