Where it came from
Released in 2004, Madrox #3 is part of a five-issue limited series published by Marvel Comics under the Mature Audiences imprint. Written by Peter David and illustrated by Pablo Raimondi, the series serves as a character study for Jamie Madrox, the Multiple Man, focusing on his transition into a detective operating his own agency in Mutant Town. This particular arc explores the psychological toll of Madrox's powers as he manages his various dupes, each manifesting different facets of his personality.
The creative team aimed to ground the superhero concept within a noir-inspired, gritty urban environment, distancing the character from traditional X-Men team dynamics. The series was well-regarded by critics and fans alike for its sharp dialogue and character depth, eventually leading to the successful launch of the X-Factor ongoing series. The design of the issue, featuring cover art by David Lloyd, leans into the moody, procedural tone that defined the character’s evolution during this period of Marvel’s publishing history.
