Maeda Keiji Kabuki Tabi #21

Maeda Keiji Kabuki Tabi is a historical manga series that dramatizes the life of the legendary Sengoku-era warrior Maeda Keiji. Published in Weekly Comic Bunch, the series was written by Tetsuo Hara and illustrated by Masakiyo Mitsuhisa, drawing inspiration from the original novel by Keiichiro Ryu. This particular issue, number 21, arrived as part of a serialized run that aimed to portray Keiji not just as a brutal fighter, but as a flamboyant and unconventional figure of the Kabuki-mono tradition, defined by his disdain for societal norms.

The visual design of the series leans into the bold, hyper-masculine aesthetic popularized by Hara's earlier work on Fist of the North Star. The artistic direction for these issues emphasized dynamic character expressions and fluid combat sequences, effectively merging historical fiction with a stylized, high-stakes action tone. During its publication, the series was well-regarded by fans of historical seinen manga for its unique blend of artistic flair and its deep dive into the colorful, rebellious spirit of 16th-century Japanese history.
