Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories—Jace #1

Magic: The Gathering: Untold Stories—Jace #1 was published by IDW Publishing in 2012 as part of a broader initiative to expand the narrative universe of the popular trading card game through comic book storytelling. The series was designed to provide deeper insight into the origins and personal history of Jace Beleren, one of the game's most iconic planeswalkers, during a period when Wizards of the Coast was actively seeking to flesh out character backstories for their growing player base.

The creative team behind this issue aimed to translate the strategic, high-fantasy tone of the game into a visual narrative format. Written by Leonardo Manco with art by various contributors throughout the series, the comic focuses on the psychological depth and mysterious past of the character. Upon release, it was received as a niche addition to the Magic: The Gathering franchise, appealing primarily to long-time players interested in the lore behind the cards rather than a general comic book audience.
