Where it came from
Mahō Shōjo Homura☆Tamura is a gag-manga spin-off of the celebrated anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica, authored and illustrated by Afro. Debuting in Manga Time Kirara Magica, this series explores the chaotic possibilities of parallel universes, focusing on the character Homura Akemi as she navigates absurd, comedic scenarios that contrast sharply with the dark, psychological tone of the original source material.
The design of this series relies on a softer, more caricatured art style intended to emphasize the humor of the premise. Because the parent series features intense emotional stakes, Afro’s approach was received by fans as a lighthearted, self-referential subversion. The second volume continues the pattern of deconstructing the magical girl trope, grounding its humor in the frustration of the protagonist's repetitive experiences across infinite realities.
