Mahō Shōjo Kazumi☆Magica: The Innocent Malice #2

Mahō Shōjo Kazumi☆Magica: The Innocent Malice is a spin-off manga series within the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise, first serialized in Manga Time Kirara Forward in 2011. This issue serves as the second installment in the narrative, which introduces a new cast of magical girls in the city of Asunaru. The story was conceived by Masaki Hiramatsu and illustrated by Takashi Tensugi, who aimed to expand the franchise's darker exploration of the magical girl archetype through a mystery-heavy plot centered on the protagonist, Kazumi.

The series was developed in the wake of the original anime’s massive critical and commercial success, seeking to explore the darker, psychological toll of contract-based magic within a new urban setting. Takashi Tensugi’s character designs lean into the established aesthetic of the franchise while providing a distinct look for the Pleiades Saints. Upon its release, the manga was received as a competent expansion of the lore, praised by fans for its willingness to experiment with the established rules of the Madoka universe while maintaining the series' signature tone of looming existential dread.
