Where it came from
Mahō Shōjo Kazumi☆Magica: The Innocent Malice is a spin-off manga series within the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise, first serialized in Manga Time Kirara Forward beginning in 2011. This third volume continues the story of Kazumi, a girl who awakens without memories and discovers she is a magical girl. Created by Magica Quartet, the series was written by Masaki Hiramatsu and illustrated by Takashi Tensugi, who sought to maintain the dark, psychological tone of the original anime while introducing an entirely new cast and mystery-focused narrative.
The design of the series balances the aesthetic tropes of the magical girl genre with the unsettling, surreal imagery characteristic of the franchise. Upon its release, the manga was received as a significant expansion of the Madoka Magica universe, praised for its exploration of identity and the darker consequences of the magical girl contract. The third volume serves as a pivotal bridge in the plot, further complicating the central mystery surrounding the protagonist's origins and the role of the Pleiades Saints.
