Mandrake: Merlín el Mago #2

Mandrake: Merlín el Mago was a Spanish comic book series published in the mid-20th century that brought the adventures of Lee Falk’s iconic stage magician, Mandrake, to a Spanish-speaking audience. Issue number two emerged during a period of high popularity for adventure comic strips, serving as a localized adaptation that blended the original American noir and fantasy elements with the specific editorial style of Spanish publishing houses of the era.

The character of Mandrake was originally created by Lee Falk in 1934 and illustrated by Phil Davis, whose clean, imaginative line work defined the character’s visual aesthetic for decades. The Spanish editions often repurposed these classic sequences, aiming to preserve the mystery and sophistication of the character while catering to readers who enjoyed pulp-style serial storytelling. These issues are now sought after by collectors interested in the international dissemination of Golden Age comic strips and the history of Spanish language comic distribution.
