Mandrake: Merlín el Mago #3

Mandrake: Merlín el Mago was a Spanish-language comic series published in the mid-20th century, adapting the classic Mandrake the Magician newspaper strip created by Lee Falk and Phil Davis. The series was designed to bring the surreal, hypnotism-based adventures of the titular illusionist to a burgeoning Spanish readership, fitting into a period where adventure comics were becoming a staple of domestic newsstands and weekly serial consumption.

The visual identity of these issues relied on the foundational work of Phil Davis, whose clean, crisp line art and pioneering use of cinematic pacing defined the character’s aesthetic. In the Spanish editions, the focus was on maintaining the sophistication of the original American strips while adapting the dialogue to suit local sensibilities. The series was generally well-received by fans of the adventure genre, serving as an accessible entry point for readers who sought the blend of mystery, stage magic, and science fiction that characterized Mandrake's legacy.
