Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves #17

Published by Charlton Comics in April 1969, Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves #17 represents the tail end of the Silver Age of comic books, a period characterized by a renewed interest in horror and supernatural themes following the relaxation of the Comics Code Authority's strict regulations. As a title in Charlton's robust line of anthology horror books, the issue served as a vehicle for eerie, suspense-driven storytelling centered around the titular character, Dr. Graves, who acted as the supernatural narrator and guide for readers.

The creative direction for this series was heavily influenced by editor and writer Joe Gill, who maintained a distinctive, pulp-inspired tone throughout the run. The artistic contributions for this period were often handled by veterans like Steve Ditko, who utilized his unique, angular style to heighten the sense of unease and psychological tension. The series was generally well-regarded among genre enthusiasts for its consistent atmosphere and its refusal to rely on the more gruesome elements that would characterize later horror comics, opting instead for a blend of classic ghost stories and gothic suspense.
