Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves #19

Published by Charlton Comics in 1974, Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves #19 belongs to a long-running horror anthology series that debuted in 1967. During the late 1960s and 1970s, Charlton occupied a unique niche in the comic book industry by operating on lower budgets than giants like Marvel or DC, which often resulted in a distinct, stripped-back aesthetic. The series followed the titular Dr. Graves, a supernatural narrator who served as a guide through tales of the macabre, a format popularized by the earlier success of EC Comics' horror titles.

The issue features work typical of the Charlton 'house style,' characterized by collaborative efforts where specific editorial guidance prioritized rapid production. The stories within this issue lean into the supernatural melodrama common to the era's suspense anthologies. While Charlton titles from this period were not always critically lauded upon release for their technical refinement, they have since garnered a dedicated following among collectors who value the charm of the publisher’s prolific output and the specific atmospheric tone captured by its rotating roster of mid-tier industry artists and writers.
