Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves #44

The Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves was a long-running horror anthology series published by Charlton Comics, beginning in the late 1960s. Issue #44 was released during a period when Charlton was carving out a niche in the market with low-cost, black-and-white and color horror titles that capitalized on the revival of gothic supernatural storytelling. These issues were designed to be accessible, punchy, and atmospheric, often serving as a training ground for artists who would later gain prominence in the industry.

The creative direction of the series relied on a rotating cast of artists and writers tasked with delivering suspenseful, eerie narratives centered on the titular Dr. Graves, who acted as a ghoulish narrator. By the time issue #44 arrived, the series had established a distinctive house style that blended classic horror tropes with the mid-century sensibilities of the bronze age of comics. While often overshadowed by the more polished output of major publishers like DC or Marvel, the series is well-regarded by collectors for its kitschy aesthetic and dedication to the pulpy, ghost-story tradition.
