Martian Manhunter #25

Martian Manhunter #25, published in December 2000, stands as the concluding chapter of the character's second self-titled solo series for DC Comics. Written by John Ostrander with art primarily by Tom Mandrake, the issue serves as a final bow for the creative team that defined J'onn J'onzz's modern identity throughout the late 1990s. The narrative focus remains consistent with Ostrander’s run, which prioritized the psychological depth of the Martian refugee while balancing his role as a foundational member of the Justice League.

The artistic aesthetic provided by Mandrake is characterized by a moody, atmospheric style that leans into the alien nature of the protagonist and the intricate mythology of Mars. By the time this issue was released, Ostrander and Mandrake had spent years exploring J'onn’s struggle to reconcile his heritage with his role as humanity's protector. This issue was received as a bittersweet conclusion to a run that had successfully elevated a secondary character into a complex, multifaceted lead, leaving a lasting impact on how writers approach the Martian Manhunter's internal life.
