Where it came from
Marvel Masterworks volume 25, released in 1993, collects the earliest appearances of the Fantastic Four, specifically reprinting Fantastic Four issues #21 through #30. This series was conceived in the late 1980s as a high-quality archival project to preserve the foundational stories of the Marvel Universe in a durable, hardcover format for collectors and new readers alike, moving away from the ephemeral nature of original comic books.
The volume features the iconic work of writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, who defined the visual and narrative language of the Fantastic Four during this period. The series is celebrated for its faithful reproduction of the original artwork and coloring, maintaining the aesthetic of the 1960s source material while providing updated editorial context. It remains a cornerstone of Marvel's library, established as the gold standard for long-term comic book preservation and historical documentation.
