Mister X #6

Mister X #6, published in 1985 by Vortex Comics, stands as a notable entry in a series defined by its avant-garde aesthetic and noir-infused science fiction. The series emerged from the alternative comics scene of the 1980s, heavily influenced by the architectural theories of the period and a desire to merge high-concept design with traditional sequential storytelling. Set in the retro-futuristic Radiant City, the narrative explores the psychological and physical impacts of the city's unique, sleep-depriving architecture on its inhabitants.

The visual language of the series was driven by the collaborative efforts of its creators, including Dean Motter, the Hernandez brothers, and later, artists like Seth and Dave McKean. This particular issue continues the series' signature exploration of urban malaise and experimental panel layouts, which challenged readers accustomed to mainstream comic book conventions. Upon its release, Mister X gained critical acclaim among connoisseurs of indie comics for its stark, expressionistic art style and its sophisticated, often surreal approach to urban dystopia.
