Nellie the Nurse #14

Nellie the Nurse #14 was published by Marvel Comics in 1947 during the post-World War II period when the publisher, then known as Timely Comics, was diversifying its catalog beyond superheroes to include humor and romance genres. This specific series focused on the lighthearted, often slapstick misadventures of a young nurse, reflecting a broader trend in the comic book industry to appeal to younger readers and the growing demographic interested in gag-oriented storytelling.

The character and the series design are rooted in the artistic conventions of the late 1940s, characterized by cartoony aesthetics and episodic situational comedy. While the identity of the specific artist for issue #14 is often obscured by the common practice of editorial house styles at Timely, the book fits within the publisher’s effort to maintain market share by iterating on popular archetypes of the era. The series was received as a standard entry in the comic racks of the time, serving as a transitional piece of pop culture before the industry shifted toward more serious horror and crime genres in the early 1950s.
