Nellie the Nurse #16

Nellie the Nurse #16 was published in 1948 by Timely Comics, the precursor to modern-day Marvel. The series, which originated in the mid-1940s, was part of the publisher's efforts to capitalize on the popularity of humor and romance comics following the decline of the superhero boom after World War II. It followed the lighthearted, often slapstick misadventures of Nellie, a nurse navigating professional and romantic mishaps in a hospital setting.

The character and the series were part of a trend of 'good girl art' comics that focused on comedic situations and romantic entanglements rather than traditional action. While the specific artist for each issue is often uncredited due to the studio-style production methods at Timely during that era, the series was designed to appeal to a broad audience looking for escapist humor. Despite its longevity in the Timely catalog, the series remained a secondary title that has since become a noted piece of mid-century pulp history for vintage comic collectors.
