Where it came from
Released in 1997 as part of a three-issue limited series, New Mutants: Truth or Death was created to revisit the nostalgic appeal of the original 1980s New Mutants lineup. Written by Ben Raab with artwork by Guang Yap, the series serves as a bridge between the characters' past and their then-current status in the Marvel Universe, focusing on a time-travel narrative that allows the protagonists to confront their younger selves.
The visual direction sought to capture the classic energy of the 1980s Chris Claremont era while updating the aesthetic for the late 90s market. The series is primarily remembered for its role as a sentimental epilogue to the original team's history, providing a sense of closure for long-time readers who had followed the characters since their inception.
