Where it came from
New X-Men #152, published in March 2004, serves as the final installment of the landmark run written by Grant Morrison. This issue concludes the 'Planet X' storyline, which saw the character Xorn reveal his true identity as Magneto and decimate the X-Mansion and New York City. The series as a whole was celebrated for its radical departure from traditional superhero storytelling, favoring complex character studies and high-concept science fiction over the status quo.
The issue features art by Marc Silvestri, who brought a gritty, detailed aesthetic to the finale. Morrison’s narrative intent was to dismantle the existing structure of the X-Men mythos to make room for new creative directions. Upon its release, the issue was widely discussed for its controversial plot twists and the permanent changes it inflicted upon the core cast, marking a definitive end to a transformative era in the franchise's history.
