Our Fighting Forces #138

Our Fighting Forces #138, released in 1972, represents a pivotal moment in DC Comics' long-running war anthology series. This issue is historically significant as the beginning of Jack Kirby's celebrated tenure on the title, where he introduced the character known as The Losers. Coming off his legendary work on the Fourth World saga, Kirby took over both writing and illustrating duties to inject his signature bombastic energy and dynamic kineticism into the war comic genre.

Kirby’s approach was a departure from the more traditional, gritty realism often found in war comics of the era. He imbued the series with a sense of epic, cinematic stakes, focusing on a ragtag group of soldiers navigating the brutal landscape of World War II. The issue was well-received by fans and critics alike, who praised Kirby's ability to blend high-intensity combat sequences with deep, human characterizations, ultimately cementing this run as a defining highlight for the DC war catalog.
