Outre-Tombe Hors Serie #1

Outre-Tombe emerged from the underground French horror and dark fantasy fanzine scene, a niche culture dedicated to the preservation and celebration of macabre literature, film, and art. The Hors Série (Special Issue) editions were curated to provide deep dives into specific sub-genres or legendary figures within the horror landscape, serving as a collector-focused companion to the primary magazine series. These publications were driven by a collective of enthusiasts and scholars who sought to bridge the gap between amateur zines and professional journals, maintaining a stark, atmospheric aesthetic that mirrored the gloomy subject matter they explored.

The design of the first special issue relied heavily on high-contrast black-and-white imagery and dense, erudite prose, a stylistic choice intended to evoke the classic pulp horror magazines of the mid-20th century. By prioritizing intellectual depth alongside grisly visual themes, the editors aimed to establish the publication as a serious archival resource for aficionados of the gothic and the uncanny. The issue was received warmly within its specific community of horror bibliophiles, who valued the publication for its commitment to documenting rare and often overlooked works of dark fiction.
