Where it came from
Power Pack #40 was published by Marvel Comics in 1988 during the later years of the original series run. The title, created by Louise Simonson and June Brigman in 1984, was notable for featuring a group of pre-teen siblings with superpowers, navigating both supernatural threats and realistic childhood challenges. This issue falls within a period where the series experimented with darker tones and evolving character dynamics as the protagonists aged.
The creative team for this specific issue saw Michael Higgins handling the writing, with art by Jon Bogdanove and Terry Austin. Bogdanove’s style during this era was characterized by a distinct, energetic approach that sought to ground the children's fantastical adventures in a relatable domestic setting. While Power Pack maintained a dedicated cult following, it often occupied a niche space in the Marvel Universe, praised by critics for its emotional depth and exploration of family bonds.
