Preacher #16

Preacher #16, titled 'Until the End of the World: Part Three', was published in 1996 as part of the acclaimed Vertigo series written by Garth Ennis and illustrated by Steve Dillon. The series emerged during a period of creative experimentation at DC Comics’ mature-readers imprint, focusing on the dark, irreverent journey of Jesse Custer, a preacher possessed by a supernatural entity. This specific issue continues the narrative arc following Custer's search for God, maintaining the series' signature blend of black humor, visceral violence, and existential inquiry.

The visual identity of this issue reflects the partnership between Ennis and Dillon, characterized by a grounded, cinematic storytelling approach that contrasted sharply with the more stylized superhero comics of the era. Steve Dillon’s clean lines and expressive character work were instrumental in grounding the series' grotesque elements, earning the creative team critical praise for their consistency and pacing. The issue remains a quintessential example of the mid-90s indie-leaning aesthetic that defined the Vertigo line’s legacy.
