Preacher #33

Preacher issue #33, titled 'Waitin' for the End of the World,' was published by Vertigo in early 1998 as part of the acclaimed comic book series created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon. The series is defined by its blending of supernatural horror, western tropes, and dark satire, centered on the journey of a disillusioned preacher named Jesse Custer. This specific issue occurs mid-series, contributing to the broader narrative arc that explores themes of faith, nihilism, and the complexities of morality in a harsh, grounded version of the American landscape.

The visual language of the issue relies on Steve Dillon’s signature style, characterized by clean, expressive linework and a focus on grounded character acting rather than exaggerated superhero aesthetics. This approach was central to the series' success, as it helped ground the often surreal and violent plot points in a recognizable reality. The title was widely praised during the late 1990s for its provocative storytelling and willingness to challenge industry standards, solidifying Ennis and Dillon's reputation as a formidable creative team within the mature-readers market of the era.
